Pioneer Award - Surround Music Awards 2003
The
Surround Pioneer Award, presented to Gail Zappa and Dweezil
Zappa on behalf of Frank Zappa, attracted some surprise
guests.
Actor Bill
Bob Thornton sent a video tribute after which the curtains
on the stage parted to reveal none other than Larry Flynt
who paid his own tribute. |

| Acclaimed
rock guitarist Steve Vai paid a very personal tribute
with reflections and stories from his early career playing
with Frank Zappa, including his audition, when Frank
reminded Steve that Linda Ronstadt was looking for a
guitarist! |

| Gail
and Dweezil Zappa accepted the Surround Pioneer Award. |
 |
|
| After
his moving and emotional acceptance speech, Dweezil Zappa
and his band entertained the audience with two Frank
Zappa numbers. |
 |

| Backstage
Gail Zappa thanks Steve Vai for his reminiscences about
Frank.
